Random acts of Dada sabotage--vanishing plates, drapes changing colors while you're out of the house, radios playing brand-new songs by long-dead artists--would also help weaken sentients' investment in a world of order and form, maybe.
that made me think of the peter david spiderman 2099/spiderman crossover story...
where changes in the time stream cause little things like that to happen.
or maybe I'm adding to the idea or remembering it differently...I tend to do that.
